My journey and background
My journey into the world of fly-fishing started at the ripe old age of six. Unfortunately, over the years, I developed poor muscle memory and bad casting habits that would take years to correct. Thirty-five years ago, I was fortunate to find my way to the Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club (GGACC), the most prestigious angling and casting club in the world. Nestled in Golden Gate Park, this club has long been responsible for producing some of the finest casters and fishermen globally.
Under the tutelage of legendary instructors such as Steve Rajeff, who has won the American Casting Association Championship 35 times and the bi-annual World Casting Championship 13 times, his brother Tim Rajeff, a national casting champion, and Mel Krieger, one of the most respected names in casting instruction, I was able to refine my casting stroke. Their guidance not only helped me improve my own technique but also allowed me to continue the legacy of teaching casting and fishing to the club’s membership.
I had the honor of serving as president of the GGACC for four years and as a board member for ten. Currently, I am an adviser to the board, continuing to share my knowledge with the next generation of casting instructors. Over the years, I have taught over a thousand students and have been fortunate to work closely with Mel Krieger, one of the most recognized casting instructors in the world.
In addition to my work with the GGACC, I am proud to be a member of the Fishing Hall of Fame and an IGFA (International Game Fish Association) world record holder. I am also a certified casting instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers. My professional affiliations include Pro-Staff positions with top brands such as G-Loomis, Echo Rod Company, Airflo Fly Lines, Patagonia, and Abel Fly Reels. I teach both traditional single-hand fly casting and two-handed or Spey casting, sharing my passion for the sport with others.
